The Regional Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire

The château and park of the Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire, perched on a promontory overlooking the Loire at a height of 40 metres, is open all year round. From April to October every year the Festival International des Jardins (International Gardens Festival) reveals a collection of ever more astonishing gardens.

Cross the drawbridge to discover the Château of Chaumont-sur-Loire with its harmonious blend of Gothic and Renaissance features.

The property of the Amboise family, it also once belonged to Catherine de' Medici, who forced Diane de Poitiers, the former mistress of King Henry II, to swap it for the Château of Chenonceau.

A few centuries later its new owners, the Prince and Princess of Broglie, undertook major work, creating a large English-style park and building magnificent stables. During this period the château was often filled with the sumptuous receptions organised by the Princess.

The International Gardens Festival

International Gardens Festival of Chaumont-sur-Loire has taken place every year from April to October since 1992, offering a bewitching display of increasingly extraordinary gardens. Thirty landscape gardeners let their imaginations run wild around an annually-changing theme. Come with family or friends to discover these astonishing gardens, which are always full of surprises! When night falls in summer the luminous diodes dotted around the "Gardens of Light" distill a mysterious atmosphere that reveals new and unusual features.

As well as the Festival, the Parc des Prés du Goualoup and its gardens are also worth a visit, designed around the great traditions of international gardens. Lose yourselves in the incredible mist sculpture by the artist Fujiko Nakaya, plunging visitors into the heart a cloud of moisture.
