‘Bienvenue à la Maison’: Learn Pastry-Making à la Française in the Comfort of a Private Home

For those of you with a sweet tooth, here’s a cool idea: join in a workshop at ‘Bienvenue à la Maison’ and discover the secrets of French pastry making with a master pastry chef, who also happens to speak excellent English! It’s a fun, entertaining and creative way to learn new skills and make new friends.

From Wed. to Sat. throughout the year, Pascale Mettoudi who heads the little enterprise, transforms the cheerful, ultra-modern kitchen at her home in Olivet, just outside Orléans, into a veritable ‘collaborative workspace’ open to 5 or so budding pastry-chefs. At the end of the session, which lasts anywhere from 2½ to over 3 hours, you’ll head off with a ‘Ready to Go’ gourmet creation that you can proudly show off and share with family and friends.

Pascale’s love of pastry-making dates back from the cradle. Neither Pascale or her brother, also a pastry-maker, are strangers to fine food as their parents, who were both in the catering business, taught them the art of eating well early on: ‘we’re all epicureans from way back!’ she says.

Although macaroons are her specialty ‘everyone loves them but thinks they’re hard to make’ there are additional workshops where you can learn how to concoct lemon tarts, quiches, éclairs and other French classics. And all you Francophiles will be thrilled to know that Pascale has recently added a new English language ‘baguette’ workshop to her roster. That will wow your friends! Check out the website below to see all the options on the menu.

Launched in 2011, ‘Welcome Home’ has met with resounding success, with many repeat customers, who Pascale refers to as her workshop ‘addicts’, and has recently extended the scope of its activity to companies, who find it a great tool for team-building.
