The National Domain of Chambord

The white facade, breathtaking staircase, turrets, chimneys and terraces overlooking an immense estate almost as large as Paris of the Château of Chambord are a reflection of the splendour desired by King Francis I!

The Château of Chambord, the dream of Francis I

Built for Francis I, the Château of Chambord is one of the most emblematic masterpieces of the French Renaissance, and the harmony of its volumes and splendid decorations will dazzle you.

Follow the double helix staircase (where two people can go up and down without ever meeting!), which will take you right up to the terraces. Dotted with pinnacles, skylights and chimneys, they offer a breathtaking view of the estate.

Discover the forest of Chambord

The estate covers almost 5,440 hectares (21 square miles), an area almost as large as the 20 arrondissements of Paris.

Enjoy the calm of this natural setting on foot or by bike in the 1000 hectares of forest open to the public. The Domain of Chambord is home to a wide range of animals, notably including deer and boar, and there are a number of hides and viewpoints installed on the estate in order to allow visitors to observe them.

The Domain can also be explored in a 4x4 vehicle, through a nature tour, or in autumn evenings to the sound of stags' bellows echoing across the meadows...

Visits to discover the Domain of Chambord

The château contains no less than 426 rooms, of which almost 90 are open to visitors. It also boasts an impressive number of stairways, almost 300 chimneys and an immense estate surrounded by a wall 32-km ( 20 miles) wall. Chambord is certainly impressive in size! There are a variety of visits available to explore the château including free, guided, fun or unusual visits, all revealing different aspects of this extraordinary stone construction dating from the majestic era of Francis I.

Events

Exhibitions, a music festival, equestrian shows, rides in horse-drawn carriages and boat rides on the Cosson river provide multiple opportunities to see a new side of Chambord.
