21 Great Sites, jewels of the Loire Valley

The Loire Châteaux are dotted throughout the Val de Loire, but only 21 qualify as “Grands Sites du Val de Loire” ("Great Sites of the Val de Loire"). To mention just a few, these include the famous châteaux of Chenonceau, Chambord, Azay-le-Rideau, Amboise and Blois, together wtih Saumur, Nantes, Angers and the Abbey of Fontevraud. Great protagonists of the history of France have passed through their doors: Francis I, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard the Lionheart, Leonardo da Vinci and Joan of Arc, without forgetting the Dukes of Anjou and of Brittany! These jewels of the Renaissance contribute to the fame of the Val de Loire, 280 km of which has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
